Cooler days, cozy sweaters, and a little less time in the sun make October one of our favorite times to get serious about skin. Welcome to collagen season.

October has a way of making us want to slow down.

The mornings are cooler. Sweaters come back out. The leaves begin to change. Our calendars start filling with pumpkin patches, football weekends, Halloween plans, and the first signs that the holidays really are not that far away.

And at XO Aesthetics, October means something else, too.

It is officially collagen season.

After spending September repairing and restoring the skin after summer, October is the perfect time to shift our focus toward strengthening, rebuilding, and creating meaningful change within the skin.

Because while glowing skin is beautiful, our goal has never been to simply make your skin look good for a few days.

We want to help your skin function better, become stronger, and age beautifully over time.

And collagen plays a very important role in that process.

Why Collagen Matters

Collagen is one of the proteins responsible for giving our skin its structure, firmness, and support.

When we are younger, our skin naturally has an abundance of it. Over time, however, collagen production gradually declines. Environmental exposure, lifestyle factors, and cumulative sun damage can contribute to visible changes in the skin as well.

That can eventually show up as fine lines, laxity, changes in texture, and skin that simply does not have the same firmness or bounce it once did.

We cannot stop the aging process, and we do not want to.

But we can support the skin as it ages.

That is one of the biggest differences between simply treating what we see in the mirror today and creating a long-term skin plan.

Collagen-building treatments are an investment in the skin you want six months, one year, and even several years from now.

Why Fall Is Treatment Season

There is a reason we get excited when the temperatures start dropping.

Fall and winter give us a wonderful opportunity to become more intentional with treatments that may require additional sun precautions or a little downtime.

This is when we can start addressing some of the concerns that accumulated over the summer, including pigmentation, uneven texture, fine lines, sun damage, and changes in overall skin quality.

It is also the perfect time to start thinking beyond correcting individual concerns and begin working on the strength and quality of the skin itself.

Treatments like chemical peels, microneedling, MOXI, BBL and Sculptra can all play different roles within a comprehensive skin plan. Some focus on cellular renewal, tone, and texture, while others work by stimulating the body’s own collagen production to gradually improve skin quality, structure, and support over time.

The important part is choosing the right treatment for your skin rather than assuming everyone needs the same thing.

No Tricks, Just Treatments

Halloween may be full of tricks, but your skincare plan should not be.

There is no single treatment, product, or procedure that magically stops aging.

What we do have are evidence-based treatments that can encourage healthier skin renewal, improve visible signs of aging and sun damage, and support collagen remodeling over time.

Chemical peels use carefully selected acids to encourage exfoliation and cellular renewal. Depending on the peel selected, they can be used to target concerns such as uneven tone, texture, congestion, pigmentation, and signs of aging.

Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries within the skin, stimulating the natural wound-healing response and encouraging new collagen and elastin production. Over a series of treatments, this can help improve texture, fine lines, acne scarring, and overall skin quality.

MOXI is a fractionated laser treatment designed to improve tone and texture while supporting skin renewal. It is a treatment we love for patients who want to address early signs of aging, sun damage, pigmentation, and overall skin quality with relatively minimal downtime.

BBL, or BroadBand Light, works differently. It uses light energy to target visible pigmentation and redness while helping improve the appearance of photodamaged skin. MOXI and BBL can also be paired when appropriate to address multiple components of skin aging in the same treatment plan.

Sculptra takes collagen building in another direction. Rather than simply adding volume for an immediate change, Sculptra is a biostimulatory injectable that works gradually by stimulating your body’s own collagen production. As that collagen develops over time, it can help restore support and improve the appearance of firmness and facial structure in a subtle, progressive way. It is one of our favorite options for patients who want to invest in how their face ages rather than chase an overnight transformation.

Different tools. Different purposes.

But when thoughtfully selected and combined with good home care, they allow us to work toward something much bigger than a temporary glow.

Stronger, healthier-looking skin that continues to look like you.

Your Skincare Can Support Collagen, Too

Professional treatments are only one piece of the collagen conversation.

What you put on your skin every day matters.

A thoughtful home routine can support healthy cellular turnover, protect existing collagen, improve the appearance of aging skin, and complement the work we are doing in the treatment room.

Retinoids are one of our favorite examples. These vitamin A derivatives encourage cellular turnover and support collagen production over time, helping improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven texture, pigmentation, and overall skin quality with consistent use.

Some of our favorite options include ZO Skin Health products for incorporating retinol and other corrective ingredients include Wrinkle + Texture Repair and Retinol Skin Brightener, as well as Hydrinity RetaXome Daily Retinal Hydrator. RetaXome uses retinal, another form of vitamin A, giving us another option when customizing a retinoid routine based on your skin, tolerance, and goals.

Acids can also have an important place in a well-designed routine. ZO Skin Health Complexion Renewal Pads or Oil Control Pads are our favorites for incorporating exfoliating acids into a routine. Ingredients such as glycolic and salicylic acid can help improve exfoliation, texture, congestion, and uneven tone. But stronger does not automatically mean better. Choosing the right acids, frequency, and combination of products is what allows us to create change without unnecessarily compromising the skin barrier.

For patients focused specifically on firmness and overall skin quality, we also love incorporating products designed to support the skin’s structure. ZO Skin Health Firming Serum is a great addition for improving the visible appearance of skin firmness and elasticity, while ALASTIN Restorative Skin Complex supports the appearance of healthier, more youthful-looking skin and complements collagen-building treatments beautifully.

More is not always better.

Using several strong active ingredients at once does not automatically build better skin. In fact, constantly irritating your skin can work against what we are trying to accomplish.

Good ingredients. The right combination. Consistent use.

That is where results are built.

Spooky Skin Savings

October is also bringing a little something fun to XO.

Our Spooky Skin Savings are designed to make this the perfect time to refresh your home skincare routine and stock up on some of the products that support the work we are doing in the treatment room.

If your products are running low, your routine needs a seasonal adjustment, or you have been wondering whether it is finally time to introduce a retinoid, acid, firming product, or another corrective ingredient, come see us.

We would much rather help you choose a few products that make sense together than have you build a routine based on whatever happens to be trending online.

Your skincare should have a purpose.

And October is a great time to make sure every step of your routine is working toward the skin you want.

Halloween Makeup Should Not Haunt Your Skin

Halloween makeup is fun.

Sleeping in it? Terrifying.

Whether you are wearing your everyday makeup, a little extra for a Halloween party, or a full face of costume makeup, make sure it comes completely off before your head hits the pillow.

Halloween makeup can be heavier, more pigmented, and sometimes more occlusive than the products you normally wear. Add in a late night, sweat, and the temptation to crawl directly into bed, and your skin may not be nearly as excited about your costume as you were.

This is a perfect night to double cleanse.

Your first cleanse helps remove makeup, sunscreen, oil, and the buildup sitting on the surface of your skin. Your second cleanse gives you the opportunity to actually cleanse the skin underneath it.

Two gentle cleansers we love are ALASTIN Gentle Cleanser and ZO Hydrating Cleanser.

And yes, even if you get home late.

Take the extra few minutes. Wash your face. Then go to bed.

Your skin will thank you in the morning.

The Candy Bowl & Your Skin

October also tends to come with one other seasonal visitor.

Candy. Everywhere.

At home. At work. In your child’s Halloween bucket. In the break room. In the little bowl you bought “for trick-or-treaters” that somehow needs to be refilled before October 31.

Enjoy the candy.

We are not here to tell you that a piece of chocolate is going to ruin your skin or that you need to eat perfectly to have a clear complexion.

But this is a good time to pay attention to your own patterns.

For some people, changes in diet, including increased intake of high-glycemic foods, may be associated with worsening acne. That does not mean every piece of candy causes a breakout, and everyone’s skin responds differently.

Instead of labeling foods as “good” or “bad,” pay attention to what your skin does when your normal habits change.

If October suddenly means significantly more sweets, less water, fewer balanced meals, less sleep, and more stress, your skin may notice the overall shift, too.

Enjoy Halloween. Eat the candy you love.

Just remember that skin health is influenced by the bigger picture, and balance still matters.

Do Not Let Sweater Weather Become Skincare Hibernation

Once the weather gets colder, staying home starts sounding really good.

Sweatpants. A blanket. A cozy couch. Maybe something warm to drink.

We understand.

But consistency is one of the biggest predictors of whether your skin plan actually creates meaningful change.

A treatment here and there can absolutely make your skin feel refreshed. But if your goal is improving pigmentation, texture, fine lines, collagen, acne scarring, or overall skin quality, consistency matters.

Collagen remodeling takes time.

Skin renewal takes time.

Correcting years of accumulated sun exposure takes time.

Your treatments build upon one another, and your home routine supports what we are accomplishing between visits.

So while your sweaters may be calling you home for the season, do not let your skincare plan hibernate with you.

And besides…

XO is warm and cozy, too.

Come see us. We will keep you comfortable while we keep your skin plan moving forward.

The Holidays Will Be Here Before You Know It

We know. It is only October.

But the holidays have a habit of arriving very quickly once Halloween passes.

If you want your skin looking its best for Thanksgiving, holiday parties, family photos, Christmas, or New Year’s celebrations, now is the time to start planning.

Some treatments create an immediate refresh, while others work gradually as the skin heals, renews, and produces new collagen. Treatments may also be most effective when performed as a series rather than as a single appointment.

That means the best time to think about holiday skin is not the week before the party.

It is now.

We can help map out your treatments so you know what makes sense in October, what can be done closer to an event, and when you should simply leave your skin alone and let it glow.

Build the Skin You Want to Keep

October reminds us that change does not have to happen overnight.

Outside, everything is shifting slowly. The air cools. The leaves change. Summer fades into fall one day at a time.

Your skin works much the same way.

Meaningful change happens gradually.

One treatment encourages renewal. Another stimulates collagen. Your home routine supports the process every morning and every night. Sunscreen protects the progress you are making. And consistency allows all of those small efforts to compound over time.

We are not chasing perfect skin.

We are building stronger, healthier, more resilient skin that ages beautifully with you.

So bring out the sweaters. Enjoy the cider mills. Eat your favorite Halloween candy. Wash off the Halloween makeup before bed.

And do not forget to make a little room in your fall routine for your skin.

Collagen season is officially here.

And at XO Aesthetics, we are ready for it.
